The colors of creation...

Just out of curiosity. Do you see creativity in colors? Do you base an idea on a color? A color within a season?

Is it just me or am I crazy in this way or thinking?

Everything I create starts with a color and developes from there.

What about you?

I absolutly agree with you wholeheartedly. I beleive that a person's creativness is an expression of there individuality, feelings, want's, and needs. Also it depends what a color says to you and what message you are trying to get across. Everything starts with a color.

I agree as well, but I think everything starts with a light (no not light bulb*ding*), then colour floods the rest of the creative thought. I know when I thing of a picture to draw, it starts with the outline, then immediatley fills with colour, and I don't even have to put much thought into the colour because it is already there.

I have never thought of the creative process in that way. I can say that analyzing what I do, color is not the first thing that comes to mind. I guess I get a feeling, and work from there. Since what I do so much is logo-based and branding, it starts in black and white, the lowest common denominator of reproduction and impact... then it evolves into color.

I dream in color, wear colorful clothes, and will certainly try on my next design to see if a color comes to me. It is a very cool idea.

On second thought, there are times when I do start with a color. When I rebuilt my motorcycle I started with Red, the frame had to be red, and then the rest fell into place. I might analyze as the color anchoring the rest ot he creativity (colors of components, color of paint, color of wheels, etc)

You are only crazy to those that understand you not. -Yoda

I look at it this way. When I close my eyes and visualize an idea...I think Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. What color from that season best fits this client and their visual goal. It's really the best way for me to start from a seed and watch it grow.

This method may not work for everyone...but it works for me.

You'd be amazed at what comes to light when a color is your guide.

I don't think I do create from a color first concept. I think it's the concept and since I do more photography based work - I think of light source.

Then if I'm working on a graphic spread, I'll try to get the color to convey itself and the concept.
