Hi computer geniuses!

I recently started working with garage band, recording audio and using the softwear instruments to make musical compositions and whatnot. I've gotten the hang of composing, more or less but have no idea how to edit! I can't seem to find the cutting tool. In addition, I'd like to know how to moderate the volume within a track, so that it ascends and descends where I want it to. I know how to do this in final cut pro, but garage band is quite different.

If anyone knows how to do this, can they shoot me back an e-mail or a ? I have a couple other questions also, but perhaps will save them for when we corresspond as it is kind of hard to verbalise in writing.
